Consumer Reports says that Apple’s new iPhone 3GS is still at the top of the smartphone heap in terms of multimedia, browsing, battery life, display, and navigation. The Palm Pre with WebOS, Samung Omnia, and BlackBerry Storm were close behind, however. The Pre scored higher in messaging and multitasking. CR also claims that Verizon seems to be the carrier that most believe to be the best when surveyed, but that’s no big surprise.

This is so sad… I can’t believe consumer reports a publication that’s suppose to be trusted would post something so inaccurate. The fact that “marketing” has made the iThings most known, but certainly not the best in features, and hardware is sad.
This is exactly the same for Verizon, simple marketing. You talk about something enough (good or bad) and it will stick… but it by no means is “the best”, just what you remember when someone asks you a question. Oie, sad. Sad indeed.

Verizon has the best coverage for both voice and 3G in the U.S.. Which is what matters to most U.S. citizens. That’s fact, not opinion. Look it up. As well while you may get a bad sales rep or 2…Verizon is the best of them all overall. For good reason.
The IPhone wins the smartphone area hands down. For many good reasons.
It’s obvious you know very little about what you are trying to talk about. Actually use an Iphone and you’ll know this. Actually user Verizon and you would know this too. Because it’s obvious you are making things up as you go.
I keep having this same argument with others…. to bad it’s futile.
I’ve worked for AT&T and Verizon, so I’m fully aware of their coverage. And (as you might say, it’s what “American’s might prefer”) despite the fact we live in America, global coverage is actually more preferable.
As for your assumption that I’ve never used a device, I own all three. I’m a tech freak and typically buy the newest/latest to test things out and do comparisons.
I love my Apple stuff, but comparisons are comparisons and marketing is marketing. apples and oranges.

I think Apple’s products are great, but the iPhone being the “best” is a bit over.
I can’t honestly call any device that has a 3mp camera (to start) “the best”.
The fact that Apple’s marketing decides to release little things, bit by bit, forcing people to pay for a device over and over ’cause of their “following” /popularity is not right, ’specially in this economy. It would be so much more kosher if they’d release an honest device that competes with the highest quality.
They can place the high end camera, GPS, BT 2.0, copy and paste and multiple other features in the first version (like many other devices already have) and people can pay for “real” improvements, not tiny enhancements.
Know what I mean?
